Members’ Corner | Installatörsföretagen wins the “2025 Gender Equality Rocket” for the Upplyst iniciative

Installatörsföretagen, our Swedish member, has been awarded the 2025 Gender Equality Rocket for its initiative Upplyst, developed in collaboration with the trade union Elektrikerna. This national recognition, presented by Forum Gender Equality, highlights the significant strides made to foster gender equality within the traditionally male-dominated electricity industry.

The award was announced at the Forum Gender Equality national conference and was presented by Lise Tamm, Director General of the Swedish Gender Equality Agency. This prize is given to organizations that demonstrate a dedicated commitment to creating a more equal society through targeted actions.

“It’s fantastic that our important work is being recognized nationally. The issue of a more equal electricity industry needs all the light it can get. By trade unions and employers running Upplyst together, we take joint responsibility and can then really change work culture and recruitment patterns. We want to create an industry where everyone feels welcome,” said Saira Alladin, CEO of Installatörsföretagen.

What is Upplyst?

Upplyst started in 2017 and is a joint initiative between Installatörsföretagen, representing employers, and the trade union Elektrikerna. The aim is to increase gender equality and inclusion in the electrical industry, so that it becomes as natural for women as it is for men to become electricians. The work of Upplyst is aimed at, among others, schools, decision-makers, young people and the electricity industry in general. This is done, for example, through school visits, fairs, conferences and social media where they welcome young people to the industry and inform about the need for electricians to achieve Sweden’s climate policy goals.

The Gender Equality Rocket Award recognises Upplyst as a leading example of how industry-wide cooperation can pave the way for a more inclusive and diverse future in the electrical sector.
