On May 21st, the Electrification Alliance met with Miguel Gil Tertre, Head of Cabinet to European Commission Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera. This was an opportunity to reflect on the role of clean, smart electrification as Europe’s fastest and most cost-effective path to ensuring energy security, boosting competitiveness, and strengthening resilience.
The Alliance expressed strong support for the introduction of a 32% electrification target by 2030 and stressed that, to achieve it, the necessary investments must be backed by a stable EU legislative framework and targeted State aid.
The discussion also covered key issues such as the importance of system flexibility to prevent blackouts, or the potential of e-mobility and Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technologies. Besides, members called for a reduce in fossil fuels imports and state aid reform that is transparent, fair, and focused on strategic areas like clean tech and grid infrastructure.
The Electrification Alliance looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Commissioner Ribera and her cabinet to advance a flexible and fully decarbonised Europe.
