EuropeOn’s Estonian member, the Estonian Association of Electrical Entrepreneurs (EETEL), is taking an important step to strengthen skills in the electrical sector. In cooperation with Tartu Vocational College, EETEL will establish a new training space focused on grid infrastructure in Tartu, in the South of Estonia. This initiative will be key in working towards a more resilient electricity grid in the country.
The centre will serve both vocational training and examinations, as well as upskilling opportunities for electricians already in the workforce. Equipped with the same materials and network elements used in real grid construction and maintenance, it will allow students and professionals to practice in realistic conditions.
This initiative comes in response to Estonia’s growing demand for grid electricians, due to large-scale grid renewal and the development of new generation capacity to meet national energy goals. Until now, no full-time vocational training existed for this specific profile, leaving many grid electricians trained only for indoor work or through on-the-job experience. Besides, this project will also have a positive impact on aspiring and experienced electricians Southern region of the country, who had to travel hundreds of kilometres to get trained.
“With the construction of a training space in Tartu, we will create a full-time training capacity in the area that has been lacking so far,” said Kaarel Jänes, CEO of EETEL.
EETEL is really committed to attracting people to electrical careers and ensuring there is enough skilled workforce in the sector. On October 17-18, EETEL will celebrate the third edition of the Positron Youth Festival, which aims to promote the electrical sector among young people and inspire future careers in the field, allowing young participants to meet companies and professionals in the sector.
