EuropeOn is proud to announce a new partnership with Electriciens Sans Frontières (Electricians without borders), a 40-year-old NGO working to reduce inequalities in access to electricity and water worldwide. As part of this partnership, EuropeOn will support its vital work in Ukraine, where access to electricity has been critical for the survival of civilians since 2022.
Through an international network of volunteers, companies, public authorities and in close collaboration with local stakeholders, Electriciens sans frontières promotes economic and human development using renewable energy solutions, both in underdeveloped and crisis-affected regions. The NGO has been active in Ukraine since 2022, mobilised from the first weeks of the Russian invasion. Since then, its volunteers have continuously supported communities and local institutions, with the clear objective of maintaining essential services in a context of active conflict.
To date, Electriciens sans frontères has enabled the installation of nearly 100 hybrid solar systems across 10 Ukrainian oblasts, powering critical infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, health centres and water pumping stations. These facilities are systematically targeted by Russia, causing power outages which cut population off from essential services. Each solution combines solar panels, batteries and a generator as a last resort. The systems are managed through smart energy control to ensure a continuous, reliable and long-term power supply.
Continuing EuropeOn’s focus on energy security
This collaboration represents an important step for EuropeOn, supporting concrete action on the ground to enhance the resilience of Ukrainian communities. It also provides an opportunity to foster mutual learning on resilient electrical installations in crisis contexts, while further strengthening our focus on energy security.
“Electrical contractors hold an enormous responsibility in ensuring continuous access to essential services for civilians. Everything we can learn from Electriciens sans frontières and their Ukrainian counterparts is invaluable in strengthening the preparedness and resilience of electrical installations facing all types of disruptions. Everything we can do to support such a remarkable cause must be pursued” – said Julie Beaufils, EuropeOn’s Secretary General.
This step follows the release of our briefing, “A Resilient Europe with Shockproof Electrical Installations”, which outlines how electrical contractors design, install and maintain the electrical and digital systems that keep Europe running, even in times of crisis. It marks the beginning of further work on the role of electrical contractors in strengthening Europe’s resilience.
Electriciens sans frontières also participated in one of the most recent roundtables with EuropeOn’s Value Chain Working Group, presenting their work in Ukraine. EuropeOn invites its members and partners to engage with and support Electriciens sans frontières in their remarkable work.
