The Electrification Alliance releases new position paper on energy security

The Electrification Alliance published this month its new position paper on energy security, launched during their Electrify Europe for Energy Security event co-hosted with the Global Renewables Alliance.

Building on the growing urgency to reduce Europe’s dependence on imported fossil fuels in an increasingly volatile geopolitical context, the paper sets out the Alliance’s priorities for revising the EU Energy Security Framework.

The paper makes the case that clean electrification – across heating, transport, and industry – is the most scalable and cost-effective pathway to strengthen energy security, complementing this with recommendations to make electricity more affordable, unlock system flexibility, and accelerate grid development and digitalisation. Together, these measures would help reduce import dependence, shield consumers from price volatility, and reinforce Europe’s resilience and strategic autonomy.

A high-level event to drive momentum

The position paper was presented during the Electrify Europe for Energy Security event, co-hosted by the Electrification Alliance and the Global Renewables Alliance (GRA). The event also marked the inauguration of GRA’s new Brussels office and a renewed push to accelerate electrification across Europe.

The afternoon began with a closed-door, high-level roundtable bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, and energy experts to address a key challenge: Europe’s continued exposure to volatile fossil fuel markets. This was followed by a well-attended networking reception at the Renewable Energy House, celebrating both the opening of GRA’s new offices and the launch of the position paper.

Participants heard from EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jørgensen, IRENA Director General Francesco La Camera, and GRA Chair and CEO of the Global Wind Energy Council Ben Backwell, who set the tone for the discussions ahead.
