By 2025, KNX will be the key driver for intelligent, networked and sustainable living and working and globally the customers’ first choice in the smart home and building market. This is the vision of the newly elected executive board of the KNX Association, which is responsible for the development and promotion of the world’s leading solution for smart homes and buildings. The main focus of the newly elected executive board lies on Internet of Things (IoT), energy management and cybersecurity!
New KNX IoT solutions and devices available in 2021
The first KNX IoT devices are expected to be launched this year as digitalisation is going IP and KNX has already approved its KNX IoT specifications for members to start developing related products. To address the importance of energy management, which extends the KNX application ranges in home and building automation, the first energy management solutions based on KNX have been implemented in a broad range of various projects around the globe. Among them is the first home energy storage system that obtained KNX certification! In general, KNX gets a lot of attention as it is the only technology that already today can seamlessly integrate energy management with the usual automation or services in smart homes and buildings. And the new ETS6 Professional tool is to come this year with a full range of new features and a simpler user interface. The tool, which unites the whole portfolio of more than 8,000 KNX certified devices and is used in over 190 countries, will continue to ensure easy KNX communication via the different possible transmission techniques twisted pair, Radio Frequency and IP.
KNX Executive Board is full of leading building automation expertise
The new KNX Executive Board that was elected at the latest general assembly represents the interests of all KNX members within the organisation. Once again, the board combines an impressive range of KNX know-how and expertise in various areas and applications within the entire field of home and building automation. It consists of Uwe Laudenklos (ABB Stotz-Kontakt GmbH), Martin Herms (Albrecht Jung GmbH & Co. KG), Thorsten Müller (Busch-Jaeger Elektro GmbH), Jürg Sprecher (Feller AG), Christian Feltgen (GIRA Giersiepen GmbH & Co. KG), Johannes Hauck (HAGER Group), Alexander Burgbacher (INSTA GmbH), Jean-Paul Jacobs (Merten GmbH), Jean-Christophe Krieger (Schneider Electric Industries S.A.), Franz Kammerl (Siemens AG Germany), Klaus Waechter (Siemens Schweiz AG), Thomas Sell (Theben AG), Michael Möller (Voltus GmbH) and Thomas Weinzierl (Weinzierl Engineering GmbH).
Excellently positioned for the coming years
“Due to the spread of the Internet of Things, the networking of private and commercial buildings, and thus the demand for intelligent smart home and building solutions, has accelerated significantly. During the past few years, we have successfully managed to put KNX at the forefront of this development. I am pleased to be able to build together with all KNX Executive Board members upon this top market position and have the honour of continuing to shape the further development of KNX during this exciting time of digital transformation in the building sector” says KNX President Franz Kammerl on his re-election. He was elected in the office of KNX President for the third time in a row.
“Our current KNX IoT program is bringing KNX to the next level: increased networking capabilities, simplification of KNX Connectivity and IP migration, stronger support to sustainable energy management solutions, strengthened security in installations and data privacy. KNX addresses the most strategic priorities to deliver best-in-class solutions for smart homes and smart buildings. The next priority will be to accelerate simplicity in ETS to our partners, offering off-the-shelf solutions for the different target segments” says newly elected Vice President Jean-Christophe Krieger, who also views KNX as remaining the first choice in the smart home & building segment in the coming years.
