EuropeOn and Members Meet Policymakers in Brussels

June was a busy month in Brussels, as EuropeOn welcomed members from across Europe for internal exchanges and meetings with policymakers and stakeholders on the policy issues shaping the future of the electrical contracting sector, from electrification and housing to skills and public procurement.

EuropeOn Brussels Days: Policy Working Group Meetings

On 3 June, EuropeOn members gathered in Brussels for the latest edition of the EuropeOn Brussels Days, bringing together the Policy Working Group to exchange views on the most relevant legislative and policy developments affecting the electrical contracting sector.

The meeting covered topics such as electrification, housing, public procurement and skills. One of the highlights was a presentation by Paul Moinereau, who shared insights into the French Electrification Action Plan and SERCE’s perspective on accelerating electrification. The discussion provided valuable inspiration as we continue to follow the development of the upcoming EU Electrification Action Plan, expected to be published on 15 July.

Members also had the opportunity to meet Spyros Mathioudakis, Senior Policy Officer at the European Builders Confederation (EBC), to discuss recent work on public procurement and subcontracting. Philip McGuinness, Seconded National Expert at the European Commission’s Housing Taskforce, presented the Commission’s work on housing and shared his views on the challenges posed by workforce and skills shortages.

The day concluded with engaging discussions with MEP Michael Bloss and MEP Nicolás González Casares on the future of electrification and Europe’s energy transition.

ZVEH Delegation Visits Brussels

Later in the month, a delegation of Board members from EuropeOn’s German member, ZVEH, visited Brussels for a study visit.

The programme included meetings with representatives from the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER) and Directorate-General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DG EMPL), focusing on the forthcoming Electrification Action Plan, workforce and skills, and other initiatives relevant to the electrical contracting sector.

The delegation also met with MEP Peter Liese and MEP Andrea Wechsler to exchange views on key European policy files, including ETS2, electrification and the upcoming Grids Package.

As the European Commission prepares the policy initiatives that will shape the sector’s future, it is essential for EuropeOn members to engage closely with European policymakers and ensure that the voice of electrical contractors is heard.
